Transport – Assessing the benefits of an infrastructure change

Pioneering the use of before and after analysis in transportation industry. This innovative project adapted the use of before and after analysis to complete an assessment of traffic flow improvements under “Noisy” conditions. The scenario was a major change, implemented by VicRoads, to a rail level crossing. The assessment project was in the form of a post implementation review to determine if the planned improvement was achieved. The process was able to quantify the  benefit, and confirm whether the benefit can be attributed to the change made. Whilst this particular case study focuses on a rail level crossing, this methodology is very well understood by the team at ISG, and has been used in a variety of settings.
